Dita Von Teese in «O» (1995)

These scans come from a very rare issue of «O» magazine from 1994/1995. I’ve never seen it available fully intact. These are just pages from a large collection of Dita related stuff I bought a couple of years ago. Photography by Andre Felix.

«O» was published by Peter W. Czernich before he started Marquis. Czernich produced 24 issues. «O» was named after the 1954 French sadomasochistic novel Story of O by Pauline Réage (Anne Desclos).

«O» was then briefly published by Ronald Brockmeyer. I don’t think it was published past issue #28. The accompanying website is dormant. There was a trademark dispute with Oprah Winfrey and Hearst Magazines.

Vintage Dita by Peter W. Czernich (2008)

Vintage Dita by Peter W. Czernich (2008)

Vintage Dita is widely available, the Book Depository often has the best price.

“This book, a timeless vintage portfolio shows Dita Von Teese between 1996 and 2004, whose rise to celebrity status was just a heartbeat away. Today, Dita is a style icon and admired by countless women everywhere. She regularly models for the big fashion houses and has a permanent place at the Paris catwalks. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the Oscar Awards Ceremony or the Opera Ball, it’s not the same if Dita isn’t there.

This book reveals a side to Dita that is well known to the public, i.e. her fetish for corsets (she has more than 100 tailor-made ones), her fetish for shoes (‘I never leave home without my high heals on’), as well as other fetishes such as bondage and latex. For the front cover of the 25th issue of Marquis magazine, I was even allowed to paint her from top to toe in silver! Dita Von Teese has created a style of classic proportions, and she is certainly in a class of her own. People used to call her ‘today’s Bettie Page’ but the comparison is out of place, as Dita is better than Bettie ever was.”

A 3-page print ad for one of Dita’s Marquis videos, Corset Sisters. I don’t know which issue of Marquis this was published in, as I only have the pages. The film was released in 1997, though. Dita’s Marquis work is still available through the Marquis online store.

Kink in the Caribbean Collection (2003)

Designer: Fräulein Ehrhardt

Details & Extras
Kink in the Caribbean is a ‘fetish vacation’ held annually in Jamaica. Dita attended the event in 2002. Dita performed two burlesque shows and modeled for Marquis during the week long celebration.

The 1950’s beach collection, also titled Kink in the Caribbean, was designed by Fräulein Ehrhardt for Marquis. I don’t actually have the 2003 catalogue, so these are just some shots I’ve collected over the years. Shots 16-26 are enlarged scans from Marquis (Germany) #27 2002.

According to this page on designer Katja Ehrhardt, the 50’s collection “contrasted strongly with all then known types of latex clothing.”

There is a shoot available to members of dita.net which features more form the Kink in the Caribbean set, including outfits not shown here.
