Perth’s Melanie Greensmith isn’t called a designer to the stars without good reason.

Over the years, celebrities such as Katy Perry, Lily Rose Cooper (nee Allen), Kate Moss, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Harry, Britney Spears, Jerry Hall and even the late Amy Winehouse have all bought a slice of Greensmith’s famed Wheels & Dollbaby fashion label.

And this week in Sydney, Greensmith caught up with one of her most loyal celebrity clients, glamorous burlesque star Dita Von Teese.

The pair met about seven years ago in London when Greensmith spotted Von Teese with her then husband, Marilyn Manson, at the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

Within six months Von Teese appeared in her first Wheels campaign and in 2011 they collaborated on a limited-edition range of vintage-inspired cardigans.

During her visit to Greensmith’s Surry Hills boutique this week, Von Teese selected several items from the upcoming autumn-winter 2013 collection – the Formidable La Femme range – including the Pussycat Knit Sweater and Oh La La Fringed Knickers.

“Catching up with Dita, whether it be in Australia or anywhere else in the world, is always a pleasure. We try to catch up as much as possible,” Greensmith told AAA.

“She’s such a warm, friendly woman and we’ve known each other a really long time. Dita loved the brand new AW13 collection and now owns five new pieces and the collection hasn’t even launched.”

Greensmith and her rocker partner Mark McEntee had lunch with Von Teese and her boyfriend, rumoured to be musician Miles Kane, at Catalina restaurant, where they discussed ideas for the next Dita Von Teese for Wheels & Dollbaby signature cardigan collection.

“Dita and I are in the early stages of collaborating about where we are going to take the next collection of cardigans,” Greensmith said.

“She even tweeted to her fans for their colour suggestions today over lunch with Mark and I and her new beau.

“We can’t reveal too much about the cardigans yet but it’s exciting. All the Dita cardigans are sold out.”
