Encore (USA) (Volume 11, Issue 8) August, 1997
Your Fantasy Fetish Guide
Photography by Sean McCall
Encore was a fetish guide which listed personal ads, reader’s stories and other fetish content with a focus on connecting enthusiasts within California. With the rise of the internet, such magazines aren’t really published anymore, but they’re a great, tangible way of illustrating the sub culture’s history.
Dita was 24 at the time of this interview and definitely in the midst of her fame within the fetish community; widely considered the best thing since Bettie Page. As you can imagine, it contains some great information relevant to that time. Reading it might spur some questions, so I’ve linked up some details below for much of what is discussed.
Pinupstar.com & Penthouse Australia
The first version of dita.net was started in 1997, with pinupstar.com being it’s predecessor. This interview must have been just before the change over. Dita no longer owns pinupstar.com. Dita appeared in a 1992 issue of Australian Penthouse. Check Dita’s scrapbook in the members section of dita.net for a sample of the shoot taken by André Felix. Dita would have been credited as Heather Sweet, and still her natural blonde hair colour for this shoot. Thank you to Dita’s webmaster, George Bone, for this information.
Reflections, Versatile Fashions & Dressed To Thrill: Ms. Antionette, Reb Stout
“Reflections” was a fetish magazine started by a well known Dominatrix, Ms. Antoinette in the late 70s. Dressed To Thrill was a fetish ball started by Ms. Antionette and the late Reb Stout (aka Rebecca H. Heels). As far as I’m aware, the Versatile Fashions mentioned here is not to be confused with the current “Versatile Fashions” and “Versatile Corsets.” I’m not even sure whether the Ms. Antionette Versatile Fashions is even in existence anymore. Please comment or email if you know.
Dr. Susan Block, HBO Specials & BETTIE PAGE: The First And Only Live Interview!
Dr. Susan Block is an American sexologist. She is known for several HBO shows. Dita is listed as appearing in episode 16 of Real Sex (HBO TV series, 1994). It’s possible that Dita appeared in other specials too, though I haven’t identified which ones yet. The infamous Bettie Page interview is available here: DVD or Download and here.
1998 Calendar
I have a few bits and pieces related to this which I will post very soon. It was a Bettie Page tribute, 16-month calendar produced by Black Pearl Productions.
